Hey folks! Here is the mural Robin Fifita and I did for the (pow) (wow) event in Kaka'ako. It is on the corner of Cooke and 'Auahi and can be seen from Starbucks on Ward if you look west. It took approximately 50 hours, most of which was spent talking story with folks who stopped to take a look. This is in reference
to myself of course:) Everyone else did most of the work, and our crew was Kai'ili Kaulukukui, Sousou Luteru, and Tricia Fifita, with loving support from Marissa Abadir and Maile Meyers. This piece was inspired by a Bobby Holcomb painting and represents the link between two vital ideas; Pan-Pacific Solidarity and Healthy Land/Healthy Ocean/ Healthy People. The latter of which is the tittle. Mahalo to the (Pow)(Wow) organizers for the opportunity to bring more color and ideas to Kaka'ako, and for Raul and his 'Ohana at the BOCA Triathlon Center for their blessings and their parking lot:) This small image is the planning image, and here are a couple pix of the final:
Hey Folks! Sorry to let almost 2 months slip by without a post! This Summer has seen me working around the clock on several projects at a time:) Below are a selection of things that I have done, including a mini Graphic Novel for the Mano tank at Sea life Park, an illustration of Queen Lili`uokalani for the current Mana Magazine cover, and Community murals at The Spalding House - Honolulu Museum of Art, depicting the theme of a "Space Garden" with a Micro-Nebula on the floor of the ex-tennis court, painted during Artspree 2012 by throwing buckets of diluted paint. Phew! And then in September I will be traveling with NOAA scientists to the Nort West Hawaiian Islands, Papahanuamokuakea National Monument to create an inspired body of work . Whew!!!
